HDSLR VIDEO COURSES FOR BEGINNERS
Learn to shoot video with your DSLR Camera in the company of an experienced broadcast TV camera crew at LINE+LIGHT. You are probably aware of the video function and capability of your DSLR (or micro 4/3rds system), but are unlikely to have found time to explore the technical and creative aspects of it.
Our two stage beginners days cover
- basic exposure control and operation of the DSLR Video function of your camera
- An understanding of frame rates, resolutions, colour space, white balance etc
- The relationship between ISO choice, shutter speeds and aperture
- Best lenses for video work, plus other optional kit needed for shooting high quality video
- learning to shoot using fluid head tripods and hand held rigs
- Do's and don't for panning, zooming, dollying- including a steadicam overview
- Basic lighting techniques both on and off camera for DSLR video
- Rolling shutter or 'jello' issues and dealing with moire/aliasing
- Framing, 16:9 composition and focusing issues
- Onboard sound vs external kit
- choosing your DSLR video accessories eg.mattebox, monitors, follow-focus, ND filters etc
- Basic editing issues (with Final Cut Pro X as preferred software)
and much, much more
We believe that camera manufacturers will continue to develop this side of their technology & equipment offered for the amateur market, meaning that the days of having a home camcorder are numbered. In the future you'll be using one piece of kit to video your family & holidays and you already own it!
We assume a little proficiency with your DSLR BEFORE you enrol on one of these courses. If you are not comfortable using your ISO, histograms, shutter speeds and aperture controls, please attend our Digital Photography Stage 1 & 2 days first.
