HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH GARDENS AND FLOWERS

One of the most popular subjects for image making is the great outdoors - and on these summer days, you can take full advantage of our expertise in guiding you through the photography of gardens and flowers, with the intention of gaining the best of the season's variety and colour.

For a day that encompasses all of the elements above, namely historic and modern gardens, with a variety of sculptures, water features and a mixture of traditional, historic and contemporary planting & specimens, we are based at The University of Nottingham's main campus.

The day includes

  • a classroom based tutorial covering the equipment and methods used for photographing gardens and plants with an especial focus on close-up and macro lenses
  • Top tips on lens choice, composition, lighting control and styling for outdoor plants
  • Guidance on when to best shoot- time of day/weather etc
  • Plenty of time in three gardens to shoot a variety of images types, including establishing shots to show design, single and multiple specimen shots and single head details

We expect to be able to choose from a small traditional country house style garden, a lush walled garden stocked with exotic and tender plants, an Edwardian garden and rockery attributed to Gertrude Jekyll and an award winning modern garden designed for the millennium.
