HOW TO SHOOT PORTRAITS ON LOCATION

Photographing people is one of the trickiest subject areas to tackle successfully. If the idea of improving your candid and more formal portraiture skills appeals, join us at one of ENGLISH HERITAGE’S most stunning locations, Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire.

Designed for photographers who have some experience with their digital camera and want to improve their skills using people on location as subject matter.

The day includes:

  • Photography of models within Bolsover Castle grounds and various buildings.
  • Using interesting features of the location to frame your model and create imaginative compositions.
  • In-depth camera controls for both static and dynamic poses.
  • Using ambient light indoors and outdoors, use of reflectors, flash and continuous studio lighting for ultimate creativity.

The hilltop location of Bolsover Castle, together with its picturesque ruins and intact ‘Little Castle’ is a wonderful setting for our instructive day. With the aim of improving your skills for use in candid location portraiture, we shall use the setting of this ancient building, adding creative lighting to help you get the best from your equipment. You’ll have the opportunity to photograph our adult models in numerous styles of dress and with a range of props indoors and out.
