Martine Hamilton Knight D.Litt (Hon), ARPS
Since graduating from the Surrey Institute of Art in 1990 Martine has specialised in architectural photography. Over the last 25 years she has run a successful business working for a variety of organisations including architects, construction companies, interior designers and advertising agencies. Her work has been published in many international books and journals and her folio can be seen at www.builtvision.co.uk
Cutting her teaching ‘teeth’ with BTEC National Diploma students of photography in the mid 1990’s, Martine has taught on the BA (Hons) Photography course at Nottingham Trent University. NTU’s BA(Hons) course was established over 30 years ago, and enjoys an international reputation as one of the foremost places to study photography. She also taught a variety of adult evening classes at Nottinghamshire colleges over the two decades prior to starting Line + Light with Bob. Anyone who has been to one of her courses will report that she is passionate about all types of architecture and image making and is renowned for her enthusiastic, informal teaching style.
Other career highlights to date include three books on The University of Nottingham’s architecture, Nottingham Transformed about the city’s regeneration and multiple solo exhibitions, including a major show in Ningbo, China in 2009. The BBC featured her in their photography series ‘A Digital Picture of Britain’ shooting 20th Century ‘greats’, and she has been an assessor for several national competitions including the RIBA Awards.
In July 2012, Martine’s work was recognized by The University of Nottingham who granted her an honorary doctorate Honoris causa (Doctor of Letters).
In Summer 2014 Martine was asked to become a worldwide ambassador for architectural photography by the well known manufacturer Manfrotto. As a user of their professional gear for her entire working life, she had no hesitation in endorsing their brand.
Martine holds an Associateship from the Royal Photographic Society, is CRB cleared to work with children and vulnerable adults and holds a current Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
In summer 2015 Martine celebrates 25 years with an exhibition of her favourite work at Bromley House Library. Come on her Historic Interiors Course on June 22nd and see the show in situ!
