Line and Light Photography School was conceived in 2007 as a collaboration between long-established architectural photographer Martine Hamilton Knight, cameraman Paul Mottram, and photo-tutor Robert Rowe. Between 2008-2023, we held day courses across the East Midlands based at The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and a variety of historic properties. Latterly joined by Dan Billings and the Fuji-X photographer Chris Upton, together we trained many hundreds of beginner and enthusiast photographers. With workshops in wide-ranging subject areas from general skill-building and architectural days, to lighting and videography, portraiture and astrophotography, we developed a reputation as one of the UK’s most highly regarded small photo-schools.
In addition to our own platform of courses, we ran regular events for organisations such as English Heritage and The Royal Photographic Society, and Martine worked extensively with WEX, Manfrotto and The RIBA as part of their own CPD programmes delivering her specialist architectural itineraries.
With the publication of Martine’s major title for Routledge in winter 2023 – Photography for Architects: Effective use of Images in your Architectural Practice, we have decided to centre Line and Light fully around architecture. For spring 2024 onwards, training will be taking those with a vested interest in the built environment from their very first steps in image making with a smart-phone camera, through to photography and videography days using specialist architectural lenses and lighting.
ONE TO ONE & BESPOKE WORKPLACE TRAINING: Martine and Paul are available for individual tuition and are happy to travel to your preferred city.
