Martine Hamilton Knight BA (Hons)

Since graduating from the Surrey Institute of Art in 1990 Martine has specialised in architectural photography. Over the last 21 years she has run a successful business working for a variety of organisations including architects, construction companies, interior designers and advertising agencies. Her work has been published in many international books and journals.

Over the years she has built up a library of images covering all aspects of architecture, including offices, hotels, restaurants, schools, shopping centres, historical buildings, sporting facilities and homes. A large selection of her work can be found at www.builtvision.co.uk, a specialist resource of British architectural images.

She is has two major books featuring her work of Nottingham’s buildings, entitled NOTTINGHAM TRANSFORMED and CAMPUS VIEWS’ about the University of Nottingham’s architecture. She is passionate about all types of architecture and renowned for her enthusiastic, informal teaching style. Cutting her teaching 'teeth' with BTEC National Diploma students of photography in the mid 1990's, Martine has taught on the BA (Hons) Photography course at Nottingham Trent University. NTU's BA(Hons) course was established almost 30 years ago, and enjoys an international reputation as one of the foremost places to study photography. She has also taught a variety of adult evening classes at Nottinghamshire colleges over the last two decades.

In 2007, the BBC featured Martine in their series ‘A Digital Picture of Britain’. In the show, she was given a compact camera and challenged to do her job with it. Tackling 20th century ‘greats’ in the city such as the 1930’s modernist factory Boots D10, she declared “this camera is actually rather good” and went out and bought one!

In 2009 she was on the team of national RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) judges, which culminated in the televised Stirling Prize on Channel 4 in October. A trip to China followed in November, where 96 of her images of Nottingham were exhibited in the city's twin- Ningbo, capital of Zhejiang province.

Martine is CRB cleared to work with children and vulnerable adults and holds a current Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
